Hey Guys,
My wife & I would be visiting Ireland in the last week of May.. Since its a scenic place, would love to hire a Bunk Camper (Caravan for 2) But need your suggestions on the following:
1. Is it safe to camp at camp sites
2. Dos and Donts for camping
3. Must visit places
4. Better contacts for Hiring a Caravan for 2
Or is it better to use public transport to get to places and stay in hotels

Being Irish i would’nt try camping, it rains a lot here and is still very cold as for safey issues, its the same as any country we could have a bad apple here and there, personally i would go for b and b as they are cheaper, check out phone; 01 4976495 or board failte irish tourist board phone; 1850 23 03 03, have a good holiday cheers Dermot
Registered campsites are safe enough, but tend to be a little hard to find.
Don’t leave your litter around, it’s not attractive. Otherwise you don’t need to worry about bears, just dogs, cats, foxes, rats ….
Must visit places? Choose a region and stay within that region. Distances might not seem long on a map, but due to the state of the roads, large volumes of high-speed traffic are not possible. To give an example, I live in County Limerick and it takes me just under 4 hours to reach Dublin city centre by car. And we do get large volumes of traffic …
To rent a caravan or camper, I suggest googling camper hire in Ireland.
Another answerer suggested that the weather might be inclement, and this is something you should consider. Rather than hotels, go for Bed & Breakfasts, they’re usually cheaper and you have much closer contact with local people. But I would still rent a car if you want to get to the more out-of-the-way places, bus services are sporadic at best in some more remote places.
my partner and I camped in mayo last year…brilliant..plenty of sites..you must get a good map though..we stayed in three different sites,no problems and weather was good…this year we are thinking of hiring a romany caravan and horse..you travel be day(the horse knows the way)and takes you to the site..you then feed him ,then spend the night in the caravan…the next day you travel on,and so on…sounds good don`t it..?
why not give it a go yourselves, something different
As long as you have some wet weather clothes you will be fine camping in May, especially if you have a camper van or caravan. It is definitely safe to camp at camp sites. My daughter went camping (tent) in Donegal last weekend and had a great time.
The Irish are both friendly and welcoming to visitors.
I personally love Donegal, Connemara and Leitrim for the scenery, though there are many beautiful places to visit, it depends what you particularly like to do.
I have put some websites below with camping and tourist information, which hopefully will help you find the perfect caravan and destination.
