Can a 17 year old take a road trip across the country, legally?

This summer my friends and I want to take a road trip, and I was wondering if it’s legal for a 17 year old to be traveling across the country without a legal guardian. Can I register at hotels or camping sites if I am 17?

    You can travel but you will have a hard time registering at hotels and camp sites. They usually required you to be 18 and have a credit card.

    Most hotels require someone to be atleast 21 to register…and that person must be there at check in. A lot of campsites require that you have someone be atleast 18.

    Not without your parent’s consent. Taking a road trip without it could get you AND your friends in trouble.

    Lets say all your friends had permission but you and you go with them. Your parents or legal guardian could legally file charges against your friends.

    The way I understand it, as a minor, you can’t travel with or without your parent’s/guardian’s consent unless you’re either under the supervision of an adult which they approve (usually 21 or older, although it may be 18 in some areas), or you travel under controlled conditions (such as an airline flight, with an adult meeting you on the other end of the flight) with parental/guadian consent.
