My boyfriend is going to be doing a solo bikeride from L.A. to Chicago to raise money and awareness for Pancreatic Cancer. How can we get hotels to donate a room for a night along the way? He will mostly be camping, but I would love to surprise him with a room here or there as the trip is going to be very difficult.

You can write to the hotels along his planned route and explain what he is doing. You should create some sort of letterhead and perhaps a press release that you can also submit to local TV and radio stations to help drum up interest and possible contributions to help support the cause he is riding for.
