I want to go camping somewhere around San Diego this weekend. Looking for real camping. Any ideas?

I’m from the boondocks so I’m not looking for campsites where you throw a tent and share the space with 300 tourists and pay hotel rates. Looking for more backwoods camping and hiking. Anyone know of any places in the vicinity?

    the only Real camping in Southern California is Desert Camping.

    wrong time of the year for that
    wait till it cools down in the Fall

    The best places to go this time of year are not in San Diego. The Sierras is the place to go. Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park, Yosemite, etc.

    I’ve been to Lake Morena, you can hike & fish there.

    Cuyamaca Rancho State Park
    This is probably the most like you describe around San Diego. It’s a wooded area and there’s a lake not far away.
