Chris asked:
I’m doing a road trip next month, and am looking for hotels in Seattle. I found one, off of Aurora Ave next to the Space Needle. Is that a good area, as far as crime and what not? I’ve never been to Seattle, and none of my friends have either. Also, I’ll be camping along the Oregon and Washington coast on my way up mid-March, how cold is it? I read the avg temp is about 45. Any help or links are great appreciated!

Do not stay at any motel on Aurora. They rent hourly.
There is a Best Western within walking distance of Seattle Center.
Generally the hotels around the Space Needle are not very nice – the area can be a little dicey at night. The Comfort Inn Suites is probably about the best one in that area. You could also look for something more toward the main part of town and take the monorail from Westlake Shopping Center to the Seattle center.
If you’re looking for something with a little more affordable price there are a two outside the “core” part of the city center that are nice and not too far from the Seattle center (about a mile walk or take the bus) – the Silver Cloud Lake Union or Springhill Suites
For your camping trip along the Washington coast be sure to bring your rain gear! It is beautiful but parts of it get over 100 inches of rain per year, so it is unlikely that you will not get some of it. The temperatures will probably be in the upper 30s or lower 40s at night and in the mid 50s during the day.
The area is very interesting with loads to see – including the museum right below the Space Needle dedicated to rock music.
I thought the city was very laid back and artsy with a very bohemian, funky area and the people were friendly and welcoming. Pike Place market is interesting as are the houses built on the piers. We stayed in La Quinta which is just down the road from the Needle. It was ok but like most city centre hotels, was a bit overpriced and a bit tatty but certainly not in any way dodgy!
Also the Seattle Art Museum is well worth a visit with some great and famous pieces.
Weather wise, it was pretty much the same as Ireland which I’m used to – lots of rain but some lovely sunny moments too!
Have a great stay- and while you’re there, remember don’t call it Seattle – call it Seeyeddle! Great accent
A lot of homeless, is not!
Aurora isn’t that close to the space needle, and many of the motels i recall on that street were no-tell motels.
