Is there anything interesting between Zion National Park and Las Vegas?

Camping Hotels
Scott E asked:

We’ll be on vacation next week, and have a night reserved camping in Zion on Friday, and reservations at the Mirage in Las Vegas on Sunday. However, we have a gap on Saturday, and I was wondering if there’s any place interesting to spend the night to break up the journey from Zion to Vegas? Do St. George, Hurricane or Springdale have much to offer? Or even something more along the way to Vegas? I think at this point we’re probably not too interested in camping, so staying in a hotel at some town would be nice. Thanks!

It’s only about a 2.5 hour drive each way, plenty of time to go up and come back in the same day. But if you don’t want to come all the way back, I’d stay in Mesquite, NV. They have some casinos there, you can usually get a package that includes a spa treatment or a round of golf for really cheap. Mesquite is about an hour from Vegas.

St. George has some sites, Hurricane is a bit of a whole in the wall. Zions is soooo beautiful! You will have a great time hiking, and camping in Zions!

Since you like outdoor life you may want to check out Red Rock Canyon which is west of Vegas about 20 miles. It’s a Bureau of Land Management recreation area where there is hiking and biking. You can drive through the area in about an hour but if you want to hike its a nice place.

Then there is Valley of Fire State Park which is about 30 miles north of Vegas just off I-15. its another hiking sightseeing park.

As you drive toward Vegas you will on I-15 drive through the Virgin River Gorge. Its a very pretty drive. The road curves through the gorge as it goes down to the valley. Take time to enjoy it.

Spend your time in the park. St. George and Mequite are gas stops. Yeah people live there. But there is nothing of note that you’ll be missing if you just fly on by.
