Is there camping near Seattle Center?

Camping Hotels
Amanda B asked:

I want to go to Bumbershoot, but I will be driving from Portland, and the hotels are so expensive around Seattle Center. Does anyone know of camping options? I would love to find a place to park my van and sleep.

Not many legal options for camping close to Seattle Center, none within the City of Seattle. There are some campgrounds just north and south of the city as well as some in the Cascade foothills to the east, but all of them are 15-20 miles or more from Seattle Center. There is some illegal overnight camping in various parts of the city, but the city police are vigilant in the parks and on streets adjacent to them, so expect to be rousted out of your sleep. Do you have a friend in Seattle who might lend you a driveway or backyard?.

The parking meters on the city streets and parking lots are free after 6pm. Find a empty spot near a restaurant or bar where you could use the restroom and you could probably make it work. Down by the Waterfront there are lots of metered parking spots that wouldn’t be that far from the Seattle Center.

Actually some of the parking lots will also let you park overnight especially down around Qwest Field. Some of the people who come to the football games come in the night before the game in their RVs. They charge RVs plenty for parking on game days but probably wouldn’t charge just a car that much.

Camp Long, one of the Seattle City Parks rents cabins for $40 per night if they have any vacancies, but it’s in West Seattle so you would need to drive or use public transportation to get to the Seattle Center.

The closest state park with camping that would probably be Saltwater State Park.

Otherwise you’re stuck heading way out into the burbs.

    Good Luck!

No camping unless you want to hang with the transients in Pioneer Square and go to jail.

Um no. Maybe you could save up some money and look on the discount travel websites. Perhaps there is someone on CraigsList that will be willing to rent you a driveway?
