What is the best way to go to the TX Motor Speedway? Camp out, Taxi, Drive? How long should I stay?

Camping Hotels
Sirious asked:

Are there places to camp? Is it safe? I’ve never been. My husband will back out at the last minute and the tickets are free.. I May be looking for someone to go with me for backup…? Maybe split a hotel room accross the street? Or camp out at the hotel? Any hotel / motel within walking distance… I dont really want to walk alone….

TMS is very safe!! We are season ticket holders and my in-laws have had their tickets since it opened in 1997 and have always camped. If this was a NASCAR weekend, you would want to camp, if possible. But being Indy weekend, you can get away with driving back and forth since it is not as heavily attended as the April/November races. There are tons of places to camp. There are some free places, most cost around $70 for the weekend (i think) that are further out from the speedway. The closer to the speedway you get, the more expensive it gets and you may actually need a special pass to get in. But regardless of where you camp, there are shower/bath houses here and there that you can use for free. I think camping is a great way to truly get the feel of the speedway. There are always bands set up at night and people just partying. We take a camper, but there are always tons of people with tents. There are no places within walking distance unless you stay across I-35 or at the really expensive place across 114. But if you are not going to camp, I suggest just driving to the race and back since the traffic will not be that bad – it just ***** that the races start so late in the evening. Best of luck in your decision and get some nachos while you are there!

You need to look into camping at TMS or private campgrounds surrounding TMS. People use campers, not tents. Realize that it is about a 1 mile walk just from the outside gates to the track itself. I honestly don’t think that you would be able to to walk from any of the hotels. Driving won’t be that bad this weekend. This race just isn’t that well attended vs. NASCAR.
