Im going camping with some friends. I have never been camping simply because I stay at the Hilton Hotels while everyone else is in the woods being eaten by gross bugs. Well I was threatend to go camping or my “friends” LOL were going to do something to my new TL. They’re the kind of people that mean what they say. SO what should I bring so Im comfortable and not eaten alive. I must be able to also have my evening cup of hot tea, How would I get the water hot? Please everything helps. I’m assuming you’ll be cooking over a campfire. In this case you’ll need to take some bottled water and buy a kettle that can be placed directly in a fire (so that the water can be heated to boiling). Make sure the kettle is fire safe….you may need to go to a store that specializes in camping supplies. Viola’……a hot cup of tea!

It’s simple and you won’t have to carry anything other than a small kettle, bottled water (which you’ll need anyway), and your cup with two tea bags. No need in packing a campfire stove….they’re too heavy to carry. And the guys will probably make fun of you for packing a stove to make a cup of tea! But heating up water over a fire in a kettle….heck….even COWBOYS did THAT!!!

HAVE FUN! Don’t forget the bug spray, anti-itch ointment, matches, and toilet paper!

Any RV over $100,000 should do quite well.

For bugs, 3M’s Ultrathon cream. It is hands-down the best bug repellent I’ve used. It works perfectly for 8 hours and well for 12.
To heat water, I’d go with a canister system like MSR’s Reactor (for large amounts of water) or a JetBoil (for individual use). Both work exceedingly well for boiling water, have built-in igniters, and are easy to use.
To make tea, you can get infuser cups that will fit into whatever thermal mug you decide to bring. Mine is from MSR and I’ve used it almost every day for four years.
You don’t need a fancy sleeping bag. Get a synthetic bag that is rated for 10deg colder than the coldest weather you expect. If you get a 0deg bag for 50deg weather, you will be almost as miserable as getting a 60deg bag for the same weather.
You should get a decent sleeping pad, though. Get a full-length camp model. You won’t be needing anything ultralight. I prefer self-inflating over blow-up or closed-cell versions. They are a little more expensive, but luxuriously comfortable.

If you have an REI nearby, go there and ask for a demo on everything.
