What to cook with boiling water and how to boil water in the mountains?

I’m going on vacation this week. I’ll be in a hotel part of the time, camping the other part. I’d like to try cooking with just my electric kettle part of my meals. I’ll be making instant oatmeal and cup o noodles, but what else can I do? Can I make soup in a can by putting the can in a pot and pouring in boiling water to warm it up? Anyone ever tried that? Also, what kind of kettle do I need to boil water in the mountains over a fire? Do they make special ones?

    You can buy small backpacking campstoves at any outdoor store. When I’m backpacking, I like to take Kraft Easy Mac’s. It’s macaroni and cheese. You just add the hot water and the powder sauce. Oatmeal is a great idea, and also Instant Mashed potatoes with butter is a real treat. At outdoor stores they also have freeze dried food that just needs hot water. Have a great time!!!!

    yeah, they are called ‘whistle kettles’ u can get them from practically any hiking/outdoors shop.
    also, get some mash potato powder that u just add water to, some gravy, hotdogs, tins of sausage and beans u know stuff like that (saying that, i dont know if america sells that sorta stuff, they might only sell it here in england, apparently we eat strange food! oh well hope that helps!

    The answers before me are very good. I agree with them. As far as cooking soup is concerned, I’d just put the soup in the pot and cook.

    One thing to keep in mind when you’re camping is the altitude. Water boils at 212 F at sea level. The temp drops one degree for every 500 feet of altitude. At 6,000 feet, water boils at 200 F. I went camping as a kid. Potatoes took about 15 minutes to cook at home. We were camping in the Rockies near Denver. At one campground, it took 25 minutes to cook, and 35 at another one. There are places where the potatoes will never get cooked. The instant potatoes are a great idea.
