Whos going to the Bristol race-? Camping or hotel?

I live in Bristol and know that finding a place to stay can be a major disaster if you dont already have a reservation. Just out of curiosity I wonder how many people come in hopes of scoring a room or lodging when they get here? or does most everyone guarantee they have arrangements prior to race?
ok just for the record .. I work for a hotel 12 miles from the track and we have had some cancelations — have about 10 rooms left $200 plus tax if anyone is still looking :-) I just got in to work and found out about them sshhhhh…lol

    We only live 2 hours from Bristol, so what we normally do is leave home Saturday around 4:00 a.m. get into Bristol around 6:00 a.m. and we normally get a spot right across the street from the big church right there at the speedway’s campground. (where people actually let you set up in their front and back yards !) We have a mini-van and just camp out one night. There is always plenty of “port-a-pottys”. And we always seem to meet the best people from all over the US.

    We go to the Busch race on Saturday, then go to the Cup race on Sunday and then head home after the race. We’ve been doing this for 5 years and have never had any trouble.

    My husband is originally from Bristol and he knows most of the back roads so that we don’t get stuck in a lot of traffic.

    once upon a time,lived in chilhowie, went to the track, on the back of a BSA, grew up ,in WVa, only 90 miles away, I say camp– not too hard to score a spot–even nder a bridge or by the side of t5he road, just have your tickets on hand, and spend the money you have saved, on the beer stocking of your cooler!!!!!!

    I couldn’t imagine going to bristol and NOT camping. Last year (fall race) was my first time going and we camped. It just wouldn’t feel natural not camping while in Bristol. Can’t wait to go back again this August…and we’ll be “roughing” it again. Racing and camping at Bristol…”The way it oughta be!”

    Yes… the best way at any race is to camp. Some tracks it is a pain (IE Daytona) because the city has grown up around the tracks and all the former camping areas became prime real estate and have been sold off.

    im going to bristol and i got tickets from a family friend who lives their and has season tickets…..and i wil lbe staying at his house…im coming all the way from washington state because their isn’t really any tracks on the west coast that i like to watch races at..

    Some do, some don’t. I personally make my reservations for any trip I make months in advance, then call to confirm a few weeks before I go.

    Oh man that is a no brainer. If you really want to experience the full NASCAR experience then by all means camp in the infield if you can swing it. This will mean planning in advance, probably for next season but it is well worth the trouble. Things happen in the infield you WILL NOT see anywhere else. Good luck and have a blast!

    Me, Me… *raises hand* … we’re camping at the Hick’s Family Campground. We already made reservations. Hope the weather is good this year. We camped out in TENTS at the Red Barn Campground for the Spring race last year and boy was it FREEZING !! Had an awesome view of the track though ! This year we’re taking a camper. lol. Weather outlook looks good so far ! Hope to see everyone there !! =)
